Welcome to CrossFit Essentials

in McDonough, Georgia.

The Short Version:

CrossFit Essentials is an ELITE FITNESS TRAINING CENTER located in McDonough, Georgia, that is to say that we help ordinary people do extraordinary things.

CrossFit’s main vehicle for overall true health is through functional fitness.  Functional fitness exercises mimic everyday activities you do at work, home, and play.  These functional fitness movements prepare your joints, muscles, and body for all daily activities. The out come is, you get healthier and more fit.  Our goal is we want muscles that go, not just for show.

We teach Olympic, world class standards that are universally scalable from basic to advanced level classes in functional exercise, athletic conditioning, plyometrics, kettlebell training, Olympic weightlifting, medicine ball and dumbbell training, power-lifting, gymnastics, rowing, running and jumping rope. Our students are extremely diverse in their experience, conditioning, and lives; and include college students, business executives, Preschooler’s (CrossFit Kids), senior citizens, military members, stay-at-home mothers and fathers, and emergency first responders.

The Long Version:

CrossFit begins with the belief in fitness.  The aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and all-inclusive fitness.  This non-sport specific program was created to help improve one’s way of life and develop general physical skills and adaptations with the combination of constantly varied functional movements. We have sought to create a program that would best prepare the housewife/soccer mom, the police officer, the preacher, the teacher, the military member, the elderly, even the Olympic athlete for any physical contingency that life can throw at you—prepare you not only for the unknown but for the unknowable. In short, our specialty is not specializing.

CrossFit is an evidence-based fitness program. You will perform movements at CrossFit Essentials that will help in your daily life.  Many CrossFitters are pleased right away with a quick result of being able to do things they never thought possible.  We believe that meaningful statements about safety, efficacy, and efficiency, are the three most important and interdependent facets of any fitness program and can be supported only by measurable, observable, repeatable facts; i.e., data.  A typical CrossFit workout calls for work at high intensity (as hard as you can go and as fast as you can go) and often with little or no rest. Because CrossFit is a simple functional program it can be scaled to fit anyone from 3 years old up to seniors.

Atmosphere and community are very important to us at CrossFit Essentials. We take pride in building an open, supportive, and tight family.  After you join us at CrossFit Essentials you not only are a CrossFit Athlete / CrossFitter, but also a member of the CrossFit Essentials family.  The friendships you build here will follow you outside of our gym.

The CrossFit methodology depends on full disclosure of methods, results and criticisms and we’ve employed the Internet (and various Intranets) to support these values. Our charter is open-source, making co-developers out of all participating coaches, athletes and trainers through a spontaneous and collaborative online community.  CrossFit is empirically driven, clinically tested and community developed.

Nutrition is the key component to your success at CrossFit Essentials. We can and will provide you with the right tools to dial in your eating lifestyle. We are here to help you understand how to make this a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. Technically, we define fitness as increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Capacity is the ability to do real work, which should be measurable using the basic terms of physics (mass, distance, time).   Life is unpredictable (much more so than sport), so real-world fitness must be broad and not specialized, both in terms of duration and type of effort (time and modal domains).

The magic is in the movements: all of CrossFit’s workouts are based on functional movements. These are the core movements of life, found everywhere and built naturally into our skeletal structure and DNA. They move the largest loads the longest distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time (intensity).

By employing a constantly varied approach to training these functional movements at an individual’s maximum intensity, dramatic gains in fitness are achieved.  Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work/time. The more work you do in less time, the more intense the effort.

In implementation, CrossFit is, quite simply, a sport—the “sport of fitness.” We’ve learned that harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or games, yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means.

Classes are offered 6 days a week. Our classes may have 5-10 students/athletes at a time with 1-2 coaches. We also have options of one on one, small group (1-4) training, corporate wellness programs, and athletic team programs.
